150 years ago we spent 90% of our time outdoor under the blue sky, today most of us spend almost 90% of our time indoors. The human circadian rhythm can be altered if we don’t receive regular and direct exposure to different levels of lighting, which can lead to health issues through the years.

HCL is light supporting the individual persons circadian rhythm - the 24-hour internal human clock, and can help improve circadian rhythms, mood, performance and even your health. In HCL the focus is placed on people, their health and the influence of artificial lighting on well-being and is being considered the next big thing in intelligent lighting control according to a 2013 market study performed by AT Kearney.

But the lighting industry does not find consensus in the definition of HCL. It is LIGHTEN's mission to contribute to the definition of HCL and become a first mover in developing intelligent and personal solutions in an evolving market.
